Introduction
During the Spring of 2019, we explored criminal justice through the lens of wrongful convictions. “Why are people wrongfully convicted?” and “What can we do about it?” are some of the questions asked. In pursuit of answers, we collaborated with the California Innocence Project (CIP), headquartered locally at California Western School of Law. The CIP is the state’s leading organization committed to exonerating wrongful convictions. The CIP provided case files of currently incarcerated individuals. The files contained legal records and letters written by prisoners who claim to have been wrongly convicted. After analyzing the files, we wrote formal recommendations for the CIP and gave presentations at California Western. As a follow up to our work with the CIP, we broadened our investigations to study and then tackle a broad swath of criminal justice issues. We wrote short fictional pieces inspired by the particular problem we researched as well as learning about behavioral issues found in prisoners

My short fictional piece inspired by the particular problem I researched. While the contents of our work with the CIP must remain confidential, I hope that the writing presented here inspires, informs, and entertains.
